The chalet is set in a small hamlet of 3 houses, within easy reach of both Bourg-St-Maurice and Ste Foy Tarentaise within ten minutes by car 10 minutes.
The chalet itself has plenty of outside space to enjoy the wonderful weather the region has to offer. The chalet is equipped with everything you might need to make your holiday run smoothly. There is a balcony at the front of the house which has plenty of space and outside furniture for al-fresco dining with views of the Isère River opposite. To the side and rear of the property, there is a decking area with seating for all and a BBQ.
The Savoie region of the Alps has so much to see and do and the chalet sits right in the heart of it which makes it the ideal base for active holidays. Some of our favourites are below:
Chalet Mathilde is ideally situated for hiking in the mountains. The options are endless and can suit experienced hikers looking to hike and climb all day or the more casual walkers seeking shorter walks.
We have tried and tested some beautiful walks in the area; some directly from the chalet, others just a short drive away.
If you are a road cyclist, the area surrounding Chalet Mathilde is definitely the place for you. The chalet is situated just outside Bourg-St-Maurice at the base of the valley (Altitude 950m); this means that there is no necessity to start or finish your ride with a tough climb. However, if you so wish, you can be on a classic Tour de France route within minutes, climbing to some of the most stunning view points around the region. The options are endless so whether you are visiting for a week or even three, you will not run out of new places to cycle.
For those not wanting to attempt some of the more challenging routes there is a great, 12km, almost flat cycle path linking Bourg-St-Maurice and the historic town of Aime.
When it comes to Mountain Biking there’s plenty to choose from. For those looking for bike parks, there are three very close to the chalet – the closest being Les Arcs. The park is graded so is suitable for all abilities and caters for those looking for downhill, enduro or cross-country biking. The ‘route 66’ downhill run, descends from 2600m, passes our chalet at 950m and then heads along the valley to the funiculaire in Bourg-St-Maurice. This means there is no need to drive or be driven to the park, just hop on your bike and start your day!
A short drive away (20 minutes) is the bike park at Tignes. This is another fantastic option for all abilities and, surprisingly, offers free chairlifts all summer! It is well worth checking it out for a day or two. La Rosiere bike park is also close by and easily accessed by car.
All of the bike parks with chairlifts are open from early July to late August.
If you are looking for a varied week or would like a day off from hiking, cycling or mountain biking, there is plenty to do in the surrounding area.
The Isère River runs through the valley and is a real hotspot for water sports. There are several companies that specialise in everything from white water rafting to kayaking and for those daring enough, hydro-speed!
If you are looking to relax, there is a beautiful swimming lake about 15 minutes’ drive away from the chalet. It has lots to do for the children as well as a little bar & restaurant. The lake is located along the 12km cycle path between Bourg-St-Maurice and Aime and makes for a great day out.
Bourg-St-Maurice has plenty of amenities such as lovely swimming pools (outdoor and indoor), a cinema (regularly showing films in English) and the usual bars, restaurants, supermarkets and shops.
Our prices for the whole chalet on a self catered basis for up to 10 people start from £1100 for a 7 night stay. We can also accommodate shorter stays so please contact us for a quote.
