Catered Ski and Snowboard Holidays – FAQs

We have compiled a list of frequently asked questions, however if you do not find the answer to your question, please contact us.

We would like to arrange ski hire, where is the best place for this?

This would depend on the resort you are looking to ski in. If you choose to ski in Les Arcs for the week, then Arc 1600 is the best place to hire from. If you would like to ski a variety of resorts and/or want to pick up your skis on your day of arrival, Bourg-St-Maurice is the place to go. Both places have plenty of options so it’s best to shop around to find the best price. It is always best to book online prior to your holiday!

Some of our party would like to have ski lessons in the week, how do we go about arranging this?

If you are looking to have lessons, it is probably best to ski in the same resort for the whole week and we would recommend Les Arcs (Arc 1600) or Ste Foy, both ski areas have plenty of options and of course we will ensure that you make your lessons on time each morning.

What are the prices of the ski passes? Does it cost a lot more to ski a different resort every day?

All the resorts vary in price but as an example, in the 2015/16 season a 6 day, adult lift pass in Les Arcs cost 250 euros. We worked out that if you were to ski a different resort every day of your holiday, the total cost would be 274 euros.

Where do you drop us off each day?

We will drop you in which ever resort that you want to ski. If it’s Les Arcs, we will drop you at either the funiculaire in Bourg (under 10 minutes) or at the chairlifts of Villaroger (5 minutes). For the other resorts, we can drop you as close as a minibus can get to the lifts or ski pass office. Normally it’s a matter of steps!

What time do you collect us?

There is no need to pre-arrange, it is completely flexible – you call us and we will be there in as long as it takes drive to your location.

Our party has mixed levels of skiing ability, do you do multiple drop offs so that some of our party can ski for longer than others?

We will drop you off and pick you up at a time to suit you and of course, if this involves two trips in the morning and two in the afternoon, that’s fine.

Am I able to stay at the chalet if I don’t want to ski every day?

The chalet is your home for the week and you can come and go as you please, the chalet is the perfect place to relax on a cold winter’s day if you don’t fancy skiing.

What happens on host’s day off?

On Ben and Maddison’s day off you will be provided with continental breakfast options and as per the rest of the week, will be taken to your ski resort of choice by the chalets minibus. In the evening you are able to sample one of the local restaurants in the area and of course you will be taken to and from your restaurant of choice so there’s no travel stress for you at all.

Are children catered for?

We happily welcome children at Chalet Mathilde – please see our ‘holidaying with children‘ page for more information on how we can accommodate your children’s needs.

What’s nearby? Can I walk to bars/restaurants?

Chalet Mathilde is away from the more touristy areas meaning that guests can experience a truly relaxing holiday however local bars, shops and restaurants are easily accessible by car in less than 10 minutes. For self-catering guests we are able to offer a minibus taxi service at an additional cost if your party would like to have an evening out.

Do the hosts live nearby?

Ben and Maddison live on the ground floor of the chalet in a completely separate, self-contained apartment. This means that they are always on hand for assistance if needed however will keep out of the way of self-catering guests at all other times.

Do you need your own vehicle?

If your holiday is a on a self-catered basis then we advise the use of a vehicle so that you can access all that the area has to offer with ease. Catered guests will have the use of the minibus service so do not need the use of their own vehicle, though of course are welcome to bring them (many of our guests prefer to drive than fly here for their holiday). We have plenty of onsite parking for your convenience.

Do you offer transfers?

On certain occasions we are able to offer airport transfers at an additional cost; however this would need to be discussed prior to your holiday.

Do you allow pets?

Chalet Mathilde does not allow pets.
